چکیده

Introduction: We aim to review the therapeutic options in ameliorating the progression of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). We shall comment on the long-term prognosis and the clinical implications of candidate genes in familial cases of FSGS. Materials and Method: Key references from the past concerning FSGS were analyzed, together with a PubMed search of the literature from 1998 to 2008. Results and Discussion: Treatment of FSGS consists of one or more of the following medications: vitamin E, prednisone, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, angiotensin receptor blocker; in the severe cases, methylprednisolone, cyclophosphamide, cyclosporine, calcineurin inhibitors, rituximab and mycophenolate. The prognoses with lengths of followup to 14 years were analyzed. The genetics of familial FSGS and the strategy of kidney transplants in such cases need

Steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome secondary to primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and smoldering multiple myeloma.

We present a patient with steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome due to focal segmental glomerulosclerosis along with smoldering multiple myeloma. While investigating the cause of proteinuria, a monoclonal gammopathy with a negative kidney biopsy for myeloma-related pathology was discovered.

Children with Steroid-resistant Nephrotic Syndrome: a Single-Center Study

Background and Aim: Steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) accounts for 10%-20% of all cases of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome. These patients are at risk of developing end-stage renal disease. The aim of this study was to determine the demographic characteristics, renal biopsy findings, response to immunosuppressive treatment, and prognosis in pediatric patients with SRNS.Materials and Met...

Renal biopsy showed minimal lesions in 150 patients (77%); in 85 of these biopsy was done 3 months to 16 years after onset of the nephrotic syndrome. Significant...

The importance of genetic testing in adolescent-onset steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome - Case report Importanța testării genetice la adolescenții cu sindrom nefrotic cortico- rezistent – Prezentări de caz

Approximately 10-20% of children and 40% of adults with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome are steroid resistant and progress to end-stage renal disease requiring dialysis or renal transplantation. In these cases, renal histology typically shows focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. Mutations in NPHS1, NPHS2, WT1, CD2AP and ACTN4 genes located on different chromosomes, expressed by glomerular podocyte...
